XR4ED Invited Talk at UnitedXR Europe 2025

On the 8^th of December 2025, I presented at UnitedXR Europe in Brussels an overview and results of the XR4ED EU Project. XR4ED focuses on fostering innovation in education through extended reality (XR) technologies. The project created a sustainable, centralised platform where educators, developers, and learners can access XR tools, applications, and resources tailored for learning and training purposes. By uniting the EdTech and XR communities across multiple EU member states, XR4ED overcomes fragmentation in the digital education technology ecosystem and supports the development and market readiness of immersive educational solutions that go beyond traditional teaching methods.

Throughout the presentation, project results are highlighted, including efforts to create an open marketplace for XR content, support for start-ups and SMEs via open calls and grants, and building links with related initiatives to strengthen Europe’s leadership in XR for education. The XR4ED platform is designed to enable personalised, innovative, and inclusive learning experiences, facilitating hands-on engagement and skills-based teaching. XR4ED also considers ethical, privacy, and inclusivity standards as part of its ecosystem, while encouraging adoption of immersive tools across schools, universities, industry training, and research communities.

Immersive Technology in Education and Training Panel Talk

On the 8^th of November 2023, I was a panelist for a session on ‘Immersive technology in education and training’ as part of the EU Science Hub conference on ‘Shaping the Next Generation of Virtual Worlds’. Next generation virtual worlds are a new paradigm largely growing due to the increase of ground-breaking technologies such as the internet of things, AI and XR, and the transition to the Web 4.0. 

This expansion is generating numerous opportunities while also presenting challenges in various areas. My panel talk consisted of two parts. First, I presented an overview of the needs, challenges and gaps of VR in education. In the second part, I presented a brief overview of XR4ED EU project which aims in providing effective solutions to XR in education, addressing the needs, challenges and gaps.

Unveil the future of XR - ITW Satellite Conference Invited Talk

Dr Fotis Liarokapis, Project Coordinator of XR4ED, MRG Leader and Member of the Executive Board at CYENS, was a guest speaker at the Conference "Unveil the future of XR" - ITW Satellite Conference”. His talk was entitled “Intelligent Extended Reality for Education”. The talk was focused on the XR4ED EU project and presented (a) an overview of the project and (b) initial results. The Conference took place at The Royal Hall - Events Venue, Nicosia, Cyprus.

This was the first of many exciting events aimed at uniting and growing the XR community, shaping the future of sustainable immersive tech, and exploring the transformative potential of XR. At Immersive Tech Odyssey - Cyprus edition, in collaboration with CYENS - Centre of Excellence, the transformative potential of Education & Heritage through immersive technologies was explored and an epic journey into the future of technology was experienced.

XR4ED Presented at AI in Education Panel

The Vice-Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy organized today a Conference on "Artificial Intelligence as a factor creating a development perspective". The purpose of the conference was to boost the activity of the research community in the field of Artificial Intelligence and, at the same time, to exploit the possibilities of Artificial Intelligence by the wider public and private sectors.

The keynote speaker at the Conference was Professor Chrysostomos Nikias who discussed the perspective opened by Artificial Intelligence and the challenges that accompany it. In the special panel about AI in Education, I presented an overview of the XR4ED EU project together with the latest results from CYENS - Centre of Excellence.

MultiTime Lab Talk 2023

On the 13^th of June 2023, I gave an invited talk at the which is part of the Department of Psychology at Panteion University, Athens Greece. The title of my talk was ‘Extended Reality: Theory and Applications’.

I gave first an overview of what is extended reality including the most characteristic technologies for visualization tracking and interaction design. The second part of my presentation included examples from my research ranging from embodiment, illusory touch, brain interaction, moral dilemmas and education.
