Visit to Foundation of Hellenic World

On the 9^th of June 2023, I visited the Foundation of Hellenic World in Athens, Greece. There, I participated in a collaborative VR experience of the outcome of the EU project called BRIDGES. The BRIDGES platform proposes a real-world solution for remote and co-located group interactions in room-scale immersive XR.

The VR experience involved being part of an ancient Greek family. Up to five participants can collaborate into the shared VR space, having their own ancient avatar representations. Smell and wind simulation allows visitors to feel more immersed in the VR experience.

PwC Cyprus Experience Visit

Today, I visited the PwC Cyprus Experience Center at Nicosia. The center consists of a community of solvers, inventive researchers, strategists, designers, and technologists. The interesting part was the design and implementation of business solutions with emerging technologies.

There were different demonstrations presented that illustrated unique human experiences across digital and physical environments. The main emerging technologies covered a wide range from immersive virtual reality, mobile augmented reality and holograms.

VS-Games 2018 Lab Visits

On Friday 7^th of September 2018, I have visited the 'Media Education and Educational Technology Lab' and 'Human-Computer-Interaction & Games Engineering' at Würzburg Universty Campus after the closing session of the 10^th International Conference on Virtual Worlds and Games for Serious Applications (VS-Games 2018).

A number of interactive demonstrations were presented to the participants of VS-Games 2018. In particular members of both research groups presented: immersive virtual reality systems, molecular visualization, photogrammetric capturing techniques, animation of virtual agents and educational augmented reality applications.

Visit to the Ship & Marine Hydrodynamics Lab

On the 7th of March 2018, I have visited the Laboratory for Ship and Marine Hydrodynamics at the National Technical University of Athens which belongs to the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. The Ship Model Towing Tank of the Laboratory, measuring 100 m x 5 m x 3.5 m, is unique in Greece and operational since 1979 at the Zographos campus. The carriage of the tank weights 5 mt is computer controlled and reaches a maximum speed of 5.5 m/s. 

The activities of the Laboratory pertain to university education and research in the area of ship and marine hydrodynamics. Simultaneously (and in second shift if necessary) the Laboratory covers the needs of the Greek Shipbuilding and Shipping industry, as well as the similar need of the public sector. The Laboratory is in addition very active in conducting sponsored research in the framework of Greek and European research programs.
